Lesson Policy

1.  Lessons are one hour in length and include instruction on safely catching, grooming, tacking and riding the horse.

 2.  A release form and student information sheet must be completed, current and on file at Sue BD Stables prior to the start of lessons.

 3.  Siblings and other guests are welcome to watch, however, this is a horse business and there are inherent dangers, therefore all children must be closely supervised.  All guests need to remain in the lounge area.  Parents are to remain in the lounge area unless asked for their assistance by the instructor.

 4.  Park in the designated area.  Do not block the driveway, barn doors or access road to the paddocks.  Please observe the speed limit of 10mph.

 5.  Payment is due at the time of the lesson.  Please purchase coupon packages ahead of your first lesson to avoid paying the individual lesson price.  Coupons can be purchased from your instructor at any time.

 6.  Lesson packages must be used within 4 months of purchase.  Any unused lesson coupons will be forfeited if not used within the 4 month time period.

 7.  No smoking on the premises.

 8.  Proper lesson attire is required at all times.  All lesson students must wear hard sole boots with a heel, long pants and a helmet.  Lesson helmets are available for your use, but your own helmet is recommended.  Absolutely no tennis shoes, sandals, shorts or skimpy tops.  Failure to comply will result in forfeit of lesson and lesson fee will be charged.  Students also need to dress appropriately for the weather.

 9.  Helmets will be worn by students at all times when working with the horses.

10.  Students must wait for their instructor before catching their assigned horse.

11.  Students are responsible for grooming the horse before and after the lesson.  Check with your instructor after the lesson to see if your horse needs to be returned to his stall or pasture.

12.  Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and their horse.  This includes cleaning up any manure or urine in the aisle and the arena and putting your tack and grooming tools away properly.  Students may choose to purchase their own grooming supplies, halter and lead rope. Please check with your instructor before purchasing supplies.  If you choose to purchase your own grooming supplies, remember to label them.

13.  Lesson students must exhibit proper show behavior at all times.

14.  Lesson horses are assigned by the instructor according to the rider's skill level.

15.  Cancellation Policy:  24 hour notice must be given to the instructor prior to canceling a scheduled lesson.  You must contact your instructor directly, do not leave a message on the barn answering machine.  Lessons canceled without 24 hour notice will be charged as a lesson.  This includes no call no shows.  Exceptions will be made for emergencies.

16.  Two consecutive no call no shows will result in a forfeit of the lesson slot.

17.  Group lessons will have a maximum of 6 students to insure the safety of both horse and rider.

18.  Please be considerate of our boarders and do not pet or feed their horses.

19.  Do not hand feed treats to the lesson horses.  Treats may be given after the lesson with the instructor's permission.

20.  The instructor will call and cancel lessons during inclement weather.

21.  During fly season, students may choose to purchase their own fly spray for the horse and bug repellent for themselves.
